The use of an iPod in the CATE (Career and Technology Education) program is always a hot topic. I have found so many uses and exciting websites. I allow the students to operate the iPod and for many this is a first time experience. The iPod is used to introduce, facilitate, and close instruction. The students have suggested sites that are helpful with instruction and websites that can be utilized across the curriculum. We can access audiobooks, skill videos, five minute lessons and music. One of the best features of the iPod is its portability which makes presenting a lesson is a different location extremely simple.

Suggestion for Science Teachers from SAHS

I am still using the iPod to present science podcasts. I try to use 3-5 minutes short subjects once or twice a week- Science Friday is excellent.
Sometimes I use a podcast that goes right with the lesson; sometimes it is a random topic. The kids love Science Friday.
I will be using a TimeWarp episode in a week or two that will be helpful when we study inertia.

iPod Helps Debates at North Augusta High

I’m using the Ipod for Debates. I’m doing debates with my classes every Tuesday and I’m bringing some videos that will support the Pro and Con side. Because every week is a different subject, I use videos from www.5min.com to make my point and to give them some ideas.
Is easy to use and is easy to carry.

I am still using my ipod to load and show art images for my student’s art critiques. They really enjoy my multimedia presentations, with the art work shown and music from the time period being studied being played.

YouTube download suggestion from Nurse Clark at Career Center

I am still using my ipod and the kids love it! My 16 year old found a new program that is easier to use to download youtube stuff than the “kick” program. The site for download is www.freedvdtoipod.com.

Suggestions from Iris Johnson at SAHS

For my Freshman Success, I use Grammar Girl and other podcasts to get them interested in such topics as the Vietnam war, the Haiti’s disaster, great speeches. It is used to increase their listening skills.

I have downloaded a scrabble game that I am trying to use like bananagrams to strengthen vocabulary.

I am still searching the possibilities.

I hope to be able to use artwork to critique the distinctions between the Renaissance and the Romantic period for my Gifted and Talented English IV Students

iPod for Managing Grades!!!

1. I use an Office App to use spreadsheets in the classroom to record grades. This allows me to walk around the room and enter grades without being at the computer. The grades are then emailed to my computer.
2. I also use a random function to truly randomly call on students and record bonus points each day in class. This allows for a less bias calling on students and allows for all to participate.

Problem: Our school network restricts the use of Mobile Me. This limits the capability to transfer data quickly to the computer. I have to make all transfers manually or from email at home. I have requested for the district to open up this link, but have not found success at this time.

Yep. In fact, because Valentine’s Day is coming, I just loaded two You Tube videos by the Beatles on my iPod: Sie liebt dich (She loves You) and Komm, gib mir deine Hand (I Wanna Hold Your Hand). We will be using them on Friday in our discussion about love.

Farewell to Kathleen

I am still loving the iPod in the classroom. We use it daily in my classroom. I am sad to say that I am leaving at the end of the school year to move to Colorado. Should I give the iPod to Sherry Shipes at my school?

iPod at South Aiken - English

I use my ipod at least three-four times a week in my classroom. We watch podcasts, but mostly I have my students listen to music from the time period we are studying as they enter the room and during class. We sometimes listen to classical music while test taking. Right now, we are using music to study the different aspects of tone in poetry. I am loving my ipod in my classroom!
