<description>I agree we have to protect this blog from misuse. In fact, I just deleted 10 posts that were just random items. Does the requirement that I review everything before it goes up handle the problem?

<description>Please do not. I am a message board addict at home and am very aware of what kids this age post. Basically, they end up being "trolls" (look that computer slang up when you get a chance), and as the saying goes--don't feed the trolls. Every board I love on the internet has at one time or another been infested by people to young or immature to post things that are acceptable.
We as facilitators could easily do monthly surveys on paper from the kids and post things we feel are worth addressing. We could even put suggestion boxes in our labs so the kids could remain anonymous. I feel that would help us see problems or issues we are oblivious to without opening up the board to misuse.

<description>The students here at LBC like the Robots and the Energy Power Mechanics Module (that's the one with the hotdogs).

Overall, I like the Physics Module and the Computer Animation module. The kids are now getting into the Computer Animation module now that I have added some posters with Japanese Anime around it. Also, I got rid of Gumby and Pokey and replaced them with Transformers figures and Batman and Robin figures (all from McDonald's Happy Meals). Gumby and Pokey were popular in the 1970's, so none of these kids have any idea who they are. With the McDonald's toys, I can relate the module to Robot Chicken on Cartoon Network, which they shouldn't be watching that late, but do anyway.
;-)

<description>It's hard to pick just one, so I'm going to pick a few. The students really like Forensic Science because they get to put on lab coats, lift fingerprints, extract DNA, collect evidence and test inkpens while trying to identify a prime suspect's identity. They also enjoy Plastic &amp; Polymers because they make glarch, golf tees and form plastic. Two more favorites are CNC where they drill designs on milling material and EP&amp;M where they cook and eat solar hotdogs!</description>

<description>To get the trash bag onto the frame easier, run a piece of string around the diamond of the frame. You can tape the string to each end to make it stay still. Then you can lay the kite frame onto the bag and cut out the shape.

I made a 2'x2' and a 1'x1' version of the kite and both flew great. The smaller one is more eradic but does loops and stunts.

I put a twenty foot ribbon on the bigger one as its tail and a ten foot shredded clear trash bag strand on the smaller one.

<description>I submitted this at the main part of the PEP site, but I am going to put it here also.

You can add food coloring to white glue to get colored glue. This would also keep the colors bright.

This is a great idea!
I hope this works out. I post a lot of my ideas at the Pitsco forums website http://www.pitsco-network.com/synergistic/forums/index.php

I will start moving some of those topics over here so the local Synergistic labs can see those and make suggestions or additions to them.

Hi fellow lab facilitators,

This is a great way for us to keep in touch. I’m really enjoying my first year in the lab here at NAMS. SO MUCH TO LEARN!!
We’ll be moving our lab to it’s new temporary home in May. I’ll be there for 2 years and then move to a permanent lab in our new renovated building.

With the budget crunch, I’ve been trying to find ways to conserve on consumables.I send a letter home listing what is most needed and then give a little extra credit for donations. Someone donated lots of white glue so at the end of each rotation I just pour it into the colored glue, stir it and I never have to buy expensive colored glue. I also cut the chromotography strips in half(Forensics)and that works fine.I asked our police department to donate lifting tape. I reuse the colored water(Weights/Measures)for several rotations. I also reuse the disposable aprons.
If anyone has any other saving tips — please share!
Feel free to visit anytime(before May), I love showing off the lab!!!
