March Project of the Month

AAGeometry teacher Angie Abney of Ridge Spring Monetta High School would like to pilot a Geometry Program that allows students to construct geometric figures, helping them learn how to apply mathematical ideas.  By creating three dimensional objects, students will better understand why some structures hold and other collapse.  This program would give students the opportunity to see platonic shapes by creating them rather than by looking at pictures or researching.  This also allows the student to test what structures are sturdy and why certain materials are used to build things.  Students will benefit greatly from the hands-on concept taught during this program.  The program will reach approximately 100 students in ninth, tenth, and eleventh grades.

This project will help close the gap in discovering relationships of construction engineering.   Students will explore careers and open doors to see geometry in the practical world.  By researching and investigating what is learned in the classroom,,students will use problem solving strategies and understand real world applications.

The start up cost for this program is approximately $950.  To donate today go to the Donate Now star at the top of this page.  If you prefer your payment be made through PayPal, use the yellow Donate button also at the top of this page.
If you would like to pay by check please make payable to Public Education Partners for March POM and mail to PO Box 3821, Aiken, SC 29802.
